Role Overview:
Are you a QA professional who loves splitting time between the testing lab and the great outdoors? As part of our restructured QA department, we are seeking a hands-on QA Product Support & Field Specialist. This unique role bridges the gap between software stability and physical reality. You will be responsible for testing our hardware-adjacent embedded platforms, running manual validation on our core legacy C++ software, and driving the outdoor installation, deployment, and real-world maintenance of our equipment.
Logistics:
- Location: Minneapolis, MN
- Work Mode: Hybrid (3 days per week in-office)
What You Will Do:
- Field Installation & Maintenance: Lead the physical, outdoor installation and configuration of our hardware equipment under varying real-world conditions.
- Embedded & Hardware Validation: Perform hands-on hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, validating firmware updates, physical device state transitions, and environmental durability.
- Test Lifecycle Organization: Author, categorize, and maintain structured automated test cases and bugs within Azure Test Plans to ensure full traceability.
- Legacy Software Preservation: Organize and execute systematic manual regression testing protocols within Azure Test Plans for our core legacy C++ desktop software.
- Cross-Functional Technical Support: Act as the primary technical support bridge between field data, hardware failures, and the internal development teams.
What We Are Looking For:
- Education: B.S. in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related technical field.
- Experience: Hands-on experience installing, configuring, and testing embedded hardware devices through academic lab work and technical projects.
- Field & Outdoor Capability: Willingness and capability to work outdoors, handling physical equipment installations, tool-handling, and field maintenance tasks.
- Hybrid QA Experience: Strong background testing physical hardware/embedded devices alongside manual software regression workflows.
- Hyper-Organized Mindset: Exceptional organizational skills are mandatory. You must systematically track physical equipment inventory, log field-test anomalies, and maintain meticulous manual test documentation in Azure DevOps. Maintain diagrams of field-deployed infrastructure and make recommendations on maintenance and test-site feasibility. Maintain good relationships with our field site partners.
- Legacy Software Literacy: Comfortable navigating complex desktop applications (C++ based) and executing thorough, edge-case manual verification scripts.
- Growth Mindset: Proactive problem solver who continually evaluates modern tools and methodologies to elevate team performance and committed to fostering a blameless post-mortem culture for positive team evolution.
