Saint Paul, Minn., May 23, 2001 - Image Sensing Systems, Inc. (ISS) (Nasdaq SmallCap: ISNS) announced today the debut of its second CAM VAN mobile machine vision demonstration and research vehicle at the 11th Annual ITS America Conference and Exposition June 4-7, 2001 at the Miami Beach Convention Center. ISS will operate CAM VAN II in cooperation with Econolite Control Products, Inc. providing live on-the-street demonstrations across North America of Autoscope Solo Pro™ and the Autoscope Image Sensor (AIS™) and 5.8 GHz wireless video transmission capability.

Cam Van II, similar to the first Cam Van, was custom built for ISS by the leading producer of TV remote studio vehicles and is fully instrumented with the latest Autoscope video vehicle detection systems. It is a fully self-contained vehicle including power, pneumatic mast (45-foot / 13.7 meters maximum raised height), with pan, tilt and zoom color cameras. The first Cam Van was introduced in January 2000, and has logged more than 60,000 miles and visited major traffic conferences and many traffic agencies throughout North America during the year. Addition of Cam Van II will provide another mobile video detection laboratory to meet the demand for live demonstrations and special traffic data collection applications.

In addition to making its initial major appearance at the ITS America Conference in Miami, Cam Van II will also be present at the IMSA Conference in St. Paul, the ITE Annual Meeting in Chicago, and several other regional conferences throughout the year.

Bill Russell, Chairman and CEO of ISS said, “Cam Van II adds yet another level of capability for ISS and Econolite to meet the needs of our customers. We now have the unique ability, as part of our strategic alliance with Wireless Technology, Inc., to add 5.8 GHz wireless video transmission capability to the Cam Van. With the 5.8 GHz wireless video system, we can beam broadcast quality (30 fps) color video to a distance of 5 miles line-of-sight without a repeater, on any one of 130 user-selectable frequencies. Cam Van II can be utilized as a mobile incident command center by large traffic management agencies during times of emergency or special events.”

Featuring the new Autoscope Solo Pro™, ISS integrates a high-resolution color camera, zoom lens and machine vision processor into a single compact unit, featuring direct real-time iris and shutter speed controls. Able to support fully networked traffic management systems, each Autoscope Solo Pro provides automatically configurable IP addressability. Operating software for Autoscope Solo Pro is available in 19 languages, and offers a 5-year warranty package.

Sponsors of Cam Vans 1 and 2 are Image Sensing Systems, Inc., Econolite Control Products, Inc. and Wireless Technology, Inc. ISS now offers lease / purchase options on special Autoscope Cam Vans worldwide. For further information visit www.imagesensing.com or www.econolite.com.
