Senior Technical Writer

Position Purpose:
Performing as a Senior Technical Writer for the ISS machine vision and radar lines in the Intelligent Transportation Systems domain, this position is involved in all aspects of documentation planning, including scheduling and production of technical documentation needed by the company such as installation manuals, software guides, marketing documentation, and online help, using a variety of different protocols.

Essential Position Functions:

  • Interface with all company departments to research and update or create documents for existing and new products.
  • Provide materials on a timely basis for both internal and external review by our external partners.
  • Create and managing corporate documentation styles to provide a consistent look and feel to all documents shipped to customers.
  • Maintain and provide part-numbered lists of all documents produced.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • BS Technical Communications, Journalism, Computer Science, or related discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful experience managing all aspects of planning for, and documentation of, hardware and software products, including researching and writing technically accurate and complete hardware installation guides, product guides, software user guides, data sheets, context-sensitive online help for software products, and electronic .PDF and web-based documentation.
  • Experience creating accurate schedules with MS Project.
  • Proven ability to use WYSIWYG and programming tools as needed for job.
  • Experience creating technical illustrations, including CAD drawings, using a variety of graphics tools (AutoCAD LT, PaintShop Pro)
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, RoboHelp, Microsoft Visual Web Express Developer, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft .NET, and XML coding
  • Ability to read technical documentation (e.g. electrical schematics, technical datasheets, programming specifications)

Additional:

  • Must be able to work independently without much supervision, and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple different projects and products at the same time.

Preferences:

  • Experience in traffic industry
  • Experience with radar systems or machine vision systems
  • Experience with ISO9001 or other quality systems

Other:

  • Ability to travel as needed to document products at a remote office location.
