Principal RF/Microwave Design Engineer

Position Purpose:
This position includes multiple functions including but not limited to technical specification development, design and develop RADAR based products, serve as a key technical reviewer on development performed in firmware, product verification and validation tests, and test methodologies.

Essential Position Functions:

  • Develop technical specifications, schematic capture, Board Troubleshooting and other activities involved in HW development.
  • Analyze and document design, fabrication, and characterization of off-the-shelf RF or microwave devices and subsystems, including amplifiers, filters and oscillators.
  • Evaluate HW at schematic level and develop theory of operation of products at circuit and system level.
    • Evaluate COTS RADAR transceivers and provide their respective pros and cons.
    • Establish and conduct statistical testing routines to qualify the performance of product at application level.
    • Develop project plans and documentation of work and results.
  • Develops and documents System Architecture including relevant user cases.
  • Prepare design/specification tradeoffs of existing products, along with component and subsystem evaluations.
  • Strong knowledge of receivers, exciters, antennas, transmitters, and RF circuit assemblies.
  • Work within a cross functional team environment to include software, radar systems, digital, RF, mechanical, and communications systems engineers.
  • Interface with FAEs to understand field issues and develop root cause analysis at Sub-assembly level: HW, Software Architecture, or Algorithm Development.
  • Responsible for analyzing ATE Test Equipment using analog and RF test equipment for various subassemblies and top level tests.
  • Develop schemes for automating final test hardware in a manufacturing environment.
  • Verify design compliance and ensure safety and quality by conducting and documenting test procedures, demonstrations, simulations, analyses or inspections.
  • Analyze one or several areas of engineering including electronic design, mechanical design, and identify system level limitations.
  • Act as an interface with other engineering teams to benchmark competitive RADAR products.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field plus 10 + years of relevant experience in RF/microwave circuit design, firmware, and algorithm development or equivalent work experience
  • Working knowledge of COMPONENT and SYSTEM DESIGN of RF/Microwave based products
  • Strong expertise in design and development of RADAR based HW development along with expertise in firmware development
  • Solid understanding of electro-magnetic wave propagation in the X and Ka bands with extensive knowledge of mixed signal circuit design, signal processing with strong emphasis in manufacturing
  • Expertise in field of RF designs through 24GHz extensive experience with X, Ka band converters
  • Knowledge of synthesizers and PLL’s; low phase source noise design, simulation and lab experience
  • Expertise in RADAR based analytics, Processors, DSPs, and Radio Modems
  • Expert in microwave RF technology to design and fine tune ATE components for mismatch, linearity and flatness
  • Strong understanding of both device physics and circuit/subsystem engineering
  • Strong experience in schematic capture and high Frequency PCB design
  • Strong experience in RF front end elements and equal experience in the lab measuring circuit performance to specification
  • Experience in digital circuit (logic) design: TTL, CMOS, MOS, ECL and software/hardware integration
  • Ability to perform solid-state device modeling and circuit design and must possess strong knowledge of microwave subsystems, such as LNA, mixers, modulators, filters, PLLs, etc.
  • Experience in FPGA/CPLD development and capable of using domain expertise to extract product weakness.
  • Expertise in programming in C, C++, and DSP Assembly languages and developing manufacturing diagnostics and test firmware to validate hardware designs
  • Experience with Design for Manufacturing and Test (DFM and DFT) techniques
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers, supplying production-ready design documentation, ensuring that assembly instructions are properly followed, developing test procedures, and analyzing manufacturer’s test results
  • Familiarity in evaluating test methodologies versus spec requirements and developing pass/fail test systems
  • Experience in using and controlling various test equipments, such as network analyzer, RF power meter, spectrum analyzer, power supplies, signal generators and oscilloscopes
  • Experience with LabView development environment and effective LabView coding practices
  • Experience with Design for Manufacturing techniques Maintain related experience in designing, testing, and troubleshooting RF / Microwave sub-systems.

Preferences:

  • Experience with transmission-line design, implementation and characterization
  • Algorithm simulation experience with MATLAB
  • Experience with ISO9001 or other quality systems
  • Six-Sigma certification
  • Fluency in spoken / written Mandarin Chinese and /or other foreign languages
  • Knowledge of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) or related fields

  • Travel requirement up to 25% (domestic and international)
